BMTC have won the prestigious Innovation in Infrastructure Award at the recently held Gulf Traffic Awards. At a flittering function held at the Dubai Convention Center, BMTC Managing Director Mr. Esam Al Mazroei and Mr. Hozefa Jawadwala (Divisional Manager – Urban Solutions) were at hand to receive the award from Mr. Walid Feghali – Regional General Manager – North Africa and Country Business Leader from 3M.
Introduced in 2009, the Gulf Traffic Award, appreciate, celebrate and reward outstanding organizational and individual achievement in the Middle East. The Awards are an independent and prestigious endorsement of the quaoity of Middle East based transport and infrastructure professionals, companies and organizations.
“Winning the award for the airport Tunnel Project in Dubai is the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication from the team. It was more of a concept sell and working along-side the client added value to the proposal and further established the fact that the system being proposed was superior to the existing system in more than many ways” saus Hozefa Jawadwala. At 1.5Kms in length, the airport tunnel, when opened was the most sophisticated road tunnel in the UAE and stakes its claim to being the longest and widest tunnel in Dubai – it comprises of 8 lanes with a capacity of approximately 8000 vehicles per hour in one direction. Today the solution proposed by the Urban Solutions team is being implemented across the country including the longest tunnel in the UAE – The Al Salam Street Tunnel in Abu Dhabi.
Anthony Pearce, Honorary Life Member and former Director General of the International Road Federation and one of the judges at the award function said “The Gulf Traffic Awards showcase the most important contributions to the environment and innovations in infrastructure, traffic management and parking management over the last two years in the Gulf region. Improvements in road safety are crucial and the awards recognize the most important contributions in terms of infrastructure projects, vehicle innovation and changing driver behavior”.
