A new device has been launched in the UAE to increase pool safety ahead of summer when swimming activities peak.
Blue Fox, a Switzerland-based provider of Pool Safety Solutions, in association with Bahri and Mazroei Trading Company has introduced an innovative system in the UAE that helps avoid drowning accidents.
Children are most vulnerable to drowning accidents, and the UAE has seen a string of such accidents in both public and residential pools in recent years, mainly caused by inattentiveness of the parents and inadequate safety precautions.
The Swiss-made system has a monitoring bracelet that can sense the depth of water and time spent under water and send out an alarm if a toddler falls into a swimming pool or a learner doesn’t come out of water after a specified time.
The system that also incorporates a receiver has two functional modes. While the active mode will send out alarm when kids are playing near the pool or swimming in the pool, the passive mode works when the pool is shut. When the passive mode is on, the system sends out an alarm if anything falls into the pool.
P Ramesh, senior business development manager, Bahri and Mazroei Trading Company, said the company was consulting the Dubai Municipality to have the system installed in public pools.
Sultan Al Suwaidi, the head of Public Safety Section at the municipality, said any product that enhances the safety of pools is welcome into the local market.
