Sustainability Cup 2023
The recently concluded Sustainability Cricket Cup tournament, organized by BMTC, and supported by Barton Engineering, Crabtree, Elsewedy Electric, Honeywell, Meyer, Ring, Schréder, and Trilux, was a testament to the growing awareness and commitment towards sustainability in our communities.
The tournament brought together 16 teams from the construction industry, who participated with great enthusiasm and passion, and showcased their cricketing skills in a fun and competitive environment. The two-day event witnessed 240 players putting in their best at the Sharjah English School Cricket Ground. The short T10 format along with a knockout elimination schedule, ensured that 15 matches could be played within two days. The final of the tournament was played between DUTCO and Voltas. In a nail-biting finish, DUTCO defeated Voltas to be the Champions in the 1st edition of the Sustainability Cricket Cup.
Saleem Butt of Dutco was adjudged the Man of the Match in the finals. The Best Batsman and Man of the series award was won by Mr. Rafi from BMTC. The best bowler award went to Mr. Mukesh Makwana from Voltas Limited.
The tournament was more than just a sporting event, as it demonstrated our collective commitment towards sustainability and to take small but meaningful steps to reduce our carbon footprint and promote environmental responsibility.
The teams made personal commitments to sustainability, including reducing waste, conserving energy, and promoting eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. These commitments were visible throughout the tournament as players could be seen actively implementing sustainable practices, such as carpooling to the venue, using recyclable water bottles, and promoting responsible waste disposal. On the final day, 240 players and spectators committed to Reduce Reuse and Recycle by writing their names on the 2m high Sustainability Tree designed by BMTC.
The Sustainability Cricket Cup tournament was an important step towards promoting sustainability and creating awareness in our community. It was a reminder that even small steps can make a big difference towards creating a better and more sustainable future for all.
We would like to thank Al Futtaim Engineering, Alpha Island, City Experts, Cracknell, DAMAC, Danway, Desert Leisure, Dutco, Gulf Contracting, IEMS, Meinhardt, Orient Irrigation Services, Tanseeq, United Masters and Voltas for participating in the tournament.
